Looking for Princess Charming...

OK, OK, I'm kidding about the title...

But I seem to have lost a deadlift slipper somewhere at the Z. I've already scoured my apartment, and it isn't there. If any of you guys happens to run across a chalk-covered deadlift slipper at the Z, please let me know.

I'm also thinking of getting a pair of wrestling shoes to use for deadlifts because, to be honest, I don't find deadlift slippers to be all that comfortable. For the former wrestlers here (Brian, maybe Jon? anyone else?), do you guys have any suggestions about what shoes to get? How thick is the sole on average? I know you guys use them for deadlifts, and I've seen them recommended elsewhere as well. I've also seen ballet slippers recommended, but I think I'll pass on that one...

  1. Damn, I saw the tag and thought "Is Frank about to go for a squat/deadlift suit...?"

I'll keep an eye out next time I'm there.

  2. These are the ones that I have: http://www.wrestlinggear.com/wrestling-shoes/all/adidas/1064-adistar-black-wrestling-shoes.html

Except I got a MUCH better deal on them. I'm sure if you looked around you could find them for ~$100.

They make some pretty low cut wrestling shoes now, but I wanted shoes with a little more height on the ankle. I'm using these to lift and wrestle once in a while, so I had to get something that would be comfortable for both.

I think *most* of the shoes will have the same sole thickness. They are all pretty thin and flexible.

The thing you have to watch out for in wrestling shoes is that some of the new ones are really curving the bottom for quickness rolling off your toe or keeping your heel in contact when your foot isn't flat. The result of this is a somewhat unstable feel if you aren't used to it.

For this reason, I would suggest looking at slightly older pairs. I used to wrestling in an old pair of asics and I know they'd be exactly what you're looking for. Here's something similar:

If I were you I'd check out dick's sporting goods, or city sports, or somewhere else that might have the shoes in person and you can try a few pairs. If you don't like any of the live ones, at least you can get a feel for them, and then find a pair you like online.

  3. Sorry I haven't been around much.

  4. Thanks Brian. I'll check out City Sports to see if they have some samples. With that sticker price, though, I may just end up getting another pair of slippers. I was hoping for more like $40-$50.

  5. Frank, maybe one of your groupies took a slipper while you weren't watching. It's a great souvenir.

  6. I got mine for like $30. I forget where, but they exist. Probably Google could help.

  7. Frank: you can most definitely buy a pair for 40-50, just look around a bit. I think asics is probably your best bet.

  8. @Nate/Brian: Yeah, I got the $40-50 price point from Googling around for it, but I was confused by the wide range of prices and models.

@Danny: It's possible that one of my groupies threw it away while she was ripping off my clothes. I'll have to check the hotel to be sure...
