JC(03/01) - Lifting Equipment Question/Bench Workout

Hey guys,
I want to buy some new lifting stuff, particularly a good belt, and deadlifting shoes. Any recommendations (links would be nice). Also, a good place to buy supplements from would be good too.

Bench workout on Wednesday:
130 kilos (286 lbs)- 4x4
Lats didn't feel too good when doing this. Still, the fact that I can do this after a back injury and 2 weeks layoff is a good sign of progress.

You lift sumo style, so you can't really use slippers, unfortunately. These are the ones I use. Chris also says you can take the insole out of a pair of Chucks.

As for supplements, which supplements are you considering, and why?

  2. *Correction: You can remove the insole from the Jack Purcell, which is a slightly more upscale version of the Chuck Taylor model. Unfortunately, I think this actually puts you at a negative heel so I can't fully recommend it unless you can whittle the insole down to where the sole is effectively flat, and then carve a piece of wood to fit (the included insole is seriously squishy)

  3. Thanks Frank.
As for supplements, I was thinking whey protein (I don't feel like I'm getting an appropriate amount of protein into my diet), and perhaps creatine some time later down the road. I just don't want to buy them from GNC.

  4. On the topic of gear...Frank, where'd you get your elbow wraps?

  6. OK. I just hope you aren't considering getting NO Xplode or something because then I would have to make fun of you. Protein powders are fine for convenience, and everyone is pretty unanimous on creatine being effective (though I haven't used it myself...yet). You can use Garrett's link or just browse Amazon.

When I used protein powder back in college and a little bit afterward, I liked Isopure whey isolate because it dissolved easily without clumping and actually tasted pretty good mixed in apple juice. I'm certainly not the best source for protein powder advice since I haven't used any in at least five years, though. I prefer to just eat meat.

Have you ever calculated how much protein you're actually getting on a given day?

  7. I got the Inzer 10mm belt with 1 prong. You should get one in an unusual color.

You can combine anything you like into a mixture, but I just get the whey concentrate in bulk.

I've gotten preworkout drink powders before, but the reason was not for lifting. It was pretty much used for pulling all nighters for school work, and I would say they are much more effective than regular coffee/Monster/Red Bull.

The only noticeable effect I've seen from creatine is greater hair loss. It's also supposed to improve cognition when sleep deprived, but getting 5+ grams fish oil and 3+ spoons of butter a day and having a preworkout drink first thing in the morning has worked best for me so far for feeling great when sleep deprived.
