I power cleaned a bit, set of 10 reps with the x-bar.
I also did dips.. like 8 of them (9 today, 7/27).. I've never been able to do dips before, so that was pretty exciting!
Nice improvement on dips!
ReplyDeleteI suspect the pad is mainly for comfort. The pad also has potential to throw off balance. If you don't feel pain, then there's no point for the pad.
The pad shifts the bar position ever so slightly, raising it higher and further backwards. This makes you compensate to balance with more forward lean.
ReplyDeleteIn addition, the compressibility of the foam in the pad makes the bar more unstable laterally, but the effect is probably negligible.
That's pretty much it. Padding adds comfort at the cost of stability and positioning, but honestly, most people get used to not using the pad after just a few sessions. You do run the risk of developing calluses where the bar sits if you don't use the pad, but that only really becomes a problem once you regularly start using heavier weights (400+, I'd say)
ReplyDeleteAhaha. Next time tell him "my boyfriend doesn't let me use the manpon, but I guess yours does. Good for you!"
ReplyDeleteSeriously, it's not useful for anything. Just screws up the form. Ignore that "advice".
Speaking as the only person with brown skin on this blog and the proud owner of a permanent black horizontal pigment discoloration across my back...I wouldn't dismiss it entirely.
ReplyDeleteSome members of the fairer sex *might* care about that...whether Eunice is one of them or not is entirely her call.
