This was hard enough that I decided to throw in the towel.

I couldn't get a weight that I doubled just one week ago. Wow. This is also known as bombing my deadlift.
Well, now I know that when I take time off before a meet, the optimal time is somewhere between 2 days and 1 week. On the bright side, this means that I'm going to do Starting Strength for the first few weeks of the new year. I always like doing SS because it feels like I'm making lots of progress, even if a lot of it is just making up lost ground.
Incidentally, this is exactly what I totaled one year ago. If I were inclined to be dramatic, I could say "oH nO! i HaVe SpEnT oNe YeAr AnD mAdE nO pRoGrEsS!11!!!" Scary stuff.

ReplyDeleteThis is just a bad day -- except for maybe bench you should have had close to another 100 lbs from squat/dead. You are at the point in your strength that you should start to think about what is the right way to peak -- I can see you've started already -- but take this through all the way and try different methods each time before you max to find the best.
ReplyDelete**yawn**
ReplyDeleteand by that I mean I think this has relatively little significance.
Question that is quasi-related: Are you still in 181?
Hah. You guys rock.
ReplyDelete@Nate: I think so, though I've been having a few too many bad days over the past cycle. Peaking-wise, I could definitely use a few tips. At the very least, I know that taking days or weeks off is really bad for me, while deloads (using ~60-70% weight) are good.
@Shanker: I'll be sticking to the 181 weight class for the time being, but I think I'm actually sitting below 181 right now because my eating hasn't been that consistent over the past week or so.
