Background/context: Trained deadlift since sept 2010. I ran 5/3/1 on it till nov 2011 (not knowing any better...). In the middle of that I fucked my back which regressed it 3-4 months. It was getting hard to progress it around and after this period; the monthly 10 lb increases did not come any more.

Today was week 5 of this program which called for a double of my previous 1RM. Even on weeks 3 and 4 I was a bit nervous about this week as that seemed like a pretty large jump to ask for. In fact, I had planned to be conservative and use 440 lb. However, the double at 410 felt pretty easy so I went for it and I'm glad for it. In terms of effort... I think I could have hit a (dirty) triple.

On both reps of the double my back wasn't perfect. In fact it felt very rounded. However, reviewing the video the rounding was not too bad though it was present. It was about the same form as I had on attempt #3 in the meet over IAP. I may post it for comments later.

Concluding, the program seems to be solid. I particularly like it for deadlifts because of the low repetition sets. I plan to run it again adding 5-10 lb to each set as directed in the article. 495 here I come!

For pressing, the bar fell out of the groove on the last rep of set 2. For the first time things were very unstable (the deadlifts may have contributed), and I stumbled a bit. Tried belting it for set 3 but I didn't feel like it helped. I probably don't know how to use it for this yet.
