This (http://startingstrength.com/index.php/site/platform_is_your_bar_straight) is a good video by Rippetoe of Starting Strength fame which has more information about barbells than you probably ever really need to know. It also explains how Chris was right (and I was wrong) that dropping a barbell unevenly can bend it easily, and also how Garrett was right (and I was wrong, again) that oiling the collars will turn a creaky bar into one that spins really well. The demonstration of the latter is actually quite impressive.
