MITStrength Updates

It sounds like there's a positive response for the ads, so I'll move forward with that.

Things to help with bringing in traffic:

- i created @mitstrength on twitter. We could auto-tweet links to new posts on the blog, on a volunteer-basis. This would probably make labels more important.
- I created mitstrength@gmail.com. This will be the google account for adsense.

Also working on setting up a facebook page, and plugging in more analytics in the blog that my company runs.

ALSO. We may be able to wrangle some money out of MIT if we become an official ASA group. There are many groups that get some money each term that are comprised of current students, alums, and affiliates (however tenuous) so I'm going to investigate what this would involve. Comments welcome.

  1. Fun. I like to learn how this stuff works.

  2. I should probably help with the ASA thing as well. This is an awesome development!

  3. Sweet.

Also, since I think I'm the only alien on this blog, I'd just like to say that you shouldn't let my lack of affiliation get in the way of official MIT sponsorship or whatever else it is that you need. I'll still be at the Z for as long as the staff don't kick me out.

  4. What type of group would this fall under? Should we try to become a MIT student group or DAPER club sport?
Do we have enough current students to meet the qualifications? Apparently we need at least 5 current students and be at least 50% current students.

  5. We definitely have five students; you, me, JC, Aaron and Justin. Not so sure on how many *other* (e.g. grad students, nonaffiliated) people we can count, though.

  6. Maybe this is obvious, or was written somewhere else, but Deirdre -- thanks for your time and effort in arranging this stuff.

  7. If AdSense generates enough money, or if there will be some MIT funding, maybe you can invite pro athletes (such as myself) for guest posing, autograph sessions, etc. Contact my agent if you're interested.

  8. Oh shit, wrong blog. I was supposed to post this at mitbodybuilding.blogspot.com.

  9. We can always ask our friends. I know of two guys who lift occasionally who probably wouldn't mind signing for us. Also, thanks Deirdre!

  10. I'm pretty sure I count, don't I? There are more grad students than undergrads...

  11. I'm not sure what the difference is between a DAPER club sport and ASA group, because there are multiple club sports (Women's Rugby, Jujitsu) that are registered ASA and are still 'club sports'.

  12. I'm a grad student and would join.

Also, I'm going to camp out in front of the Z center in order to be first in line for Danny's autograph session and flex fest.

  13. Apparently the CSC is not registering new club sports right now: http://web.mit.edu/clubsports/

But, I think ASA might be more aligned with our needs currently : http://web.mit.edu/asa/privileges/club-sport.html

  14. If our ultimate goal is to raise money to compete, I think a club sport would be better. But, DAPER doesn't seem to want to cooperate.

Also, about Legion Powerlifting...or maybe MIT Strength and Power? MIT S&P? Come to think of it, How about we shorten it to MIT Strength?

  15. We have MIT Strength on twitter, and gmail, so what I've been using, I think that covers everything. :)

  16. Legion Strength sounds pretty cool, actually, but since this is at MIT, we might as well keep that name. If we ever decide to expand beyond MIT though (like if I go back to Harvard, or if you guys know anyone at BU), we might call the umbrella organization Legion Strength.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though... :)

  17. Just wanted to say I'd be happy to help MIT Strength become ASA-recognized. I have a bit of history with ASA so I know the process.

  18. Keone, any help is welcome, I've never done the group-running bit at MIT, I just enjoyed the groups.
