I'm going to be making my purchases of belt/bands/manual sometime today (or tomorrow), and I'd like to get some input about what to use from the more experienced folks here before I make the final purchase. My current preferences are:
Belt
Inzer Forever Lever Belt 10MM
I'll be getting the Medium (30-33") size since my waist hovers around 30" on most days, and they recommend taking a size larger if this is the case. I chose this belt because (1) it's actual leather instead of just suede, and (2) I've heard good things about how easy a lever bolt is to use compared to prongs. Using Nate's belt, I got more tired taking the belt on and off than actually squatting...
Bands
EFS Pro Light Bands
The bastards changed colors on us, but I think this is one step lighter than Nate's purples.
Manual
RTS Manual
Everybody seems to suggest that I get this, so fine. This is just to make sure I don't get the wrong thing.

Belt - if you want a lever one, then sure why not.
ReplyDeleteBands - looks fine.
Manual - that's the one. Get the 5/3/1 manual too so I can steal it from you.
Belt -- I don't like the lever belts, but have to admit that it's easier to get in and out of, and it's also more "continuous" (not like 4th hole, 5th hole, ...). Also, a 10mm belt should be relatively flexible (in bending, not stretching), so a lever won't be needed. Be prepared to use other people to lock/unlock in the first few weeks, because a new belt feels like a board. I personally have a 13mm belt, and would be needing help till Dec 2017.
ReplyDeleteBands -- Do you want an entire set, or just one pair? If it's the latter option, then what's the purpose? For presses, you probably need mini-bands, and the light EFS look too difficult (because we use them doubled). For squats, either the light or the average look good.
Manual -- yes.
@Danny: Are you suggesting that I don't get the lever belt? I could get the pronged version, since it costs the same amount. My only concern was whether the bolt would be as strong as traditional prongs, but if it is at least comparable, it's hard for me to see what the disadvantages are.
ReplyDeleteThe bands are a less certain purchase for me. I'm not sure how much I'll get out of them given my current level. Initially, I'll probably just use them for squats. I believe Nate uses his purples for reverse band benching, so I can probably use the lights for those too (I'm not that much weaker than Nate in benching).
@Nate: Yeah, well, if you're going to wait until I get the 5/3/1 manual, you may have to wait a looong time since I'm unlikely to go back to that program anytime soon =).
Yes, the lever gadget is not that useful, and I'm almost sure that it's going to break at some point in time. The belt is called "Inzer Forever ...", but it's more like the minimum between forever and whenever the gadget breaks.
