▼ 1. 8/1/09 - Sat - MOVING
Moving all day long. Decent cardio I guess? Strong man training? I don't know... Either way, another day without enough sleep.
• Moving 5 hrs
▼ 2. 7/31/09 - Fri - SHEIKO #21
Weight: ??. Time: 0:40.
Super fast workout at the Z-center because I had a paper deadline at midnight. Luckily its a short day for Sheiko.
• Squat 135x5x3, 225x3 (50), 275x3 (60), 315x3x2 (70), 335x2x4 (75)
• Bench 165x3 (55), 195x3x2 (65), 225x3x6 (65)
• A: Dumbell bench 50x10x5
• A: Good mornings 135x5x5
I'm definitely moving away from 531 after the meet. I've been considering doing Smolov for my squat because it sucks donkey balls compared to my deadlift and bench which are, at least, decent. I think I need to at least do something with more volume. Any suggestions? You and Dee seem to be doing pretty well on Sheiko.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing well but its kind of boring. I am thinking of joining Rene and doing the Tuschererererererererererererererer training method for a bit.
ReplyDeleteTuchscherer's RTS is like programming Sheiko and Westside yourself. He is certainly into blocks instead of alternating speed with max effort, and he tends to repeat exercises;, i.e., bench, some other press, then bench assistance. Or squat, deadlift supplement, some squat assistance.
ReplyDeleteAs you all know, I have his book. Although I usually am not copyright-anal, I shy away from digitalizing it. The guy is just too nice, humble, and helpful on the web, answering ALL questions in his forum without any antics (NOT like Riptoe, NOT like Wendler, NOT like Louis). Though Louis does not bash people, he just mystifies everything and then claims that this method created 40-something world records.
I am certainly willing to share that booklet somehow; I just need some justification from a moral standpoint.
BTW., during the first months, RTS is very simple, but it then starts to introduce specialization in exercises, stress measures, and certain exhaustion percentages that will require a lot of planning. I will stay on the simple schedule for a couple month to learn more about my RPE's (the @... thingies) and then move on to more complex programming.
R.
Sheiko has helped me get more practice lifting heavier more often and practice my form, but it's hella boring. I'm looking forward to more rugby-based training that will still be oriented around the main lifts. So I have some time between the meet and november to figure out which PL program I want to switch to.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you guys mean by boring? I'm hardly jumping around in excitement when I'm at the gym... Is it because you don't get to do high intensity sets often enough? I guess doing endless reps at <80% would be a bit boring after a while.
ReplyDeleteWith Sheiko you rarely really feel like you are doing anything impressive that you should be getting psyched up for, even though the volume is such that a lot of the weights are difficult. We also never do anything except squat, bench, and deadlift even remotely heavy.
ReplyDeleteOh Frank, one other thing I thought I'd mention: I've only heard bad things about Smolov squat programs, although its all anecdotal. But I haven't heard anyone who really got their squat better by doing it.
ReplyDeleteOh nuts, I was hoping that would be the magic bullet. I have read articles online (DragonDoor and maybe somewhere else?) that say it really helps, but what do I know? Have the others said why? Too much volume maybe?
ReplyDeleteGive it a shot if you think it will work for you, I'm just saying...
