Aaron 11/11/09

I'm Aaron. I met you all at the beginning of August, I think it was the last work out Danny had at MIT. Anyway, I saw Frank again, and we talked for a bit. I'm a powerlifter in training, have been lifting 7 months, and that's about it. My routine is a 4 day split on a 10 day wave, Bench/Squat/Incline/Deadlift. I train with Justin, who is on a similar schedule.

Squat
305x5
315x4
315x3
315x2
315x1

So I got impatient, and went for it. After 315x4, I felt I had to get 6 more to make it a 2x5, and did the ugliest barely to depth if at all squats to finish. I just finish injuring my shoulder on incline Sunday, so I'm not going to lift until Sunday's Deadlift day. After that I might deload or something. I only did squats because it wasn't too good of a day...Also, I was winded, so I definitely need to work on my cardio. It's a good thing my sled came in today.

  1. Oh yeah, my stats as of 2 months or so ago are 225lb bench 335lb squat and 380lb deadlift at 18yrs, 185lb bodyweight. My goals are 4/3/5 by the end of the year, 200ish bodyweight. My total is up at least 400lbs since I started in June.

  2. Welcome Aaron. Frank is a recruiting machine for some reason.

Those are very ambitious goals. It is good to shoot for big numbers, but as we told Joncarlos (sp?), just train smart and see where it takes you. Planning a year out for ~100 lb increase in each lift is good, if a little unrealistic. Train hard and let it take care of itself.

    Look forward to meeting you.

  3. @Aaron: Welcome! It'll be interesting to see what you're up to.

@Nate: Yeah, well, they kind of self select. We're the only folks at the Z who do powerlifting, and sometimes I go to the Z at odd hours, so I get to meet people other than the regulars.

  4. Hi Aaron -- I'm guessing that now is a good time to work on perfecting technique. In the first few months, there is a dramatic improvement in strength (assuming proper training, rest, nutrition, ...), but from that point on, progress is slower. Big differences will now come from (in random order):
    -- improving technique
-- equipment (belt, knee wraps, suit, whatever)
    -- better planning
