JC (11/08)- 5/3/1 Bench Press Week 3

Bench press-
230x5
265x3
295x4
Weak. Idk how I can go from 280x9 to 295x4 in a week. All I can say is that I started my "diet" this past week, which has really consisted of not eating for 8+ hours at a time, mostly because of the time constraints at my job.

Bench (assistance)-
185- 5x10

Rack lockouts-
315x5
345x5
370x5

Bicep stuff- 4x10

Weight is at 209 (havent been below 210 in months).

  1. I wouldn't worry. 5/3/1 is set up exactly with this in mind. As long as you hit the prescribed reps, you get to keep progressing. Sometimes we have shitty days. In fact Danny's number is 1 out of every 8 workouts will probably be shitty. Only if its significantly more than this should you worry.

  3. I think usually (but not always) as the weight gets heavier the amount of reps you get decreases. It's probably just bro-science though ; )

  4. Haha, very astute observation man, didn't know that. I just didn't think it'd drop by that much. I was repping 290- 3x5 three weeks ago.

  5. Some days are better than others. Just make sure that the long term trend is upward, even with the blips along the way.
