"Gym Lifter?" post from rawpl.com

I think all of us fall under this category to a certain degree, nevertheless it's a good checklist to keep in mind.

  1. This is a good post. Phil Wylie (who runs that site) also runs the attached forum. I actually keep my log in parallel there (under HamsterHuey). I'd recommend that you guys post there as well to get feedback and encouragement. There are quite a few strong and knowledgeable people who post there regularly (including Paul Carter from the functional-strength.blogspot.com blog).

  3. Frank: your training log on that site is awesome. Great feedback as well. I will bookmark this!

  4. I disagree. I think most of our group follows that checklist very closely and I wouldn't consider anyone that lifts with us (or the group I frequently see, at least) to be a 'gym lifter.'

  5. Shanker just wants us undergrads to compete. I think it'll be awesome though to have Chris, JC, and I squat 400+ in a meet since we are all from MIT.

  6. I think it'll be awesome too, once I can actually get 400... I'm not currently at MIT, but I will put in my best effort to actually make it to the meet that I believe takes place in December, right?

  7. @B: I agree with you, but it is handy to keep a list of "suboptimal" behaviors in mind. For example, I know of at least one guy, maybe two (or even three, if you count me...you know who you are), who is guilty of 5, and I'm guilty of 4 sometimes.

And yes, you guys should all compete. I'll put up a list of upcoming meets soon, unless someone else wants to take the initiative.

  8. If I am not too busy at the time, I would also like to try to participate in the meet
