So, as I was walking to work today I ran into someone from the meet in Scituate who recognized me. His name is Scottie and he was there with that really strong equipped lifter, Ben. It turns out he is a trainer at the Bay Shore Athletic Club which is a few minutes South of Boston (by car). I checked out their website and, at least as far as free weights and bench presses go, this place is seriously well equipped. Anyway, he told me that there are a bunch of powerlifters who do a bench night with a full compliment of boards, chalk and gear for those who use it, and invited me and anyone else from MIT to join them sometime.
Personally, as someone who is relatively new to this sport I'm gonna jump at any opportunity to meet new people who are serious and just get exposed to as much as possible. We swapped numbers, so I'd like to give him a call and head down there sometime in the next few weeks and I wanted to extend the offer to anyone else, novices included, who'd like to join...doesn't necessarily have to be for bench night, but I definitely think some of us should check it out.

That sounds like a great idea. At what times do they train? I remember that TPS also had something similar, but their hours were ridiculous for people who have a full-time professional job (e.g. training at 3:30 on MWF or something).
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly after work, 7ish. I believe he said Thursdays, although I'll have to double check with him. But yea, let me know when you're back and we can get a couple others and check them out.
