Nathan : 9/11 Videos

Deadlifts: Slight round in lower back, but it doesn't get worse as the rep progresses at least. I think this is more an issue of set-up than strength.

Chain squat : I'm leaning way more forward than I thought I was.

Chain squat w/ belt : Leaning slightly less forward, but still not what I thought I looked like.

  1. Nate I obviously lift a lot less than you, but here's my 2 cents anyway. Your deadlifts look a little like Rene's before he changed his setup and got a lot better. I think he's pulling his shoulders back and pushing his tummy out more now.

For the 2nd video, it looks like your knees keep going forward as you sit down, but I thought your knees are supposed to not move so much past the top third of the down motion.

I can't see your chain squat w/belt video Nate, Youtube says it's not available. Also, when are you coming next to MIT? I want to have you check out my sumo deadlifts since you're the expert ^_^

  2. I second Gordon's statement about the deadlift. In fact, it looks exactly like Renee's. I don't remember exactly what Renee did to fix it, or if he still has the problem with lower-back rounding, but shoulders back/stomach out seem like good suggestions.

And my neck hurts from looking at your squats.

  3. Stupid youtube lost the video or something. I'll try to fix it.

Fuck Rene. He wishes his deadlifts looked like mine.

But seriously, I'll ask him what changed. Ultimately, I don't care *that* much about perfecting my conventional deadlift form, but I might as well try while I'm at it. I think I could fix most of what needs to be improved just by focused on set up a little more.

My squat form is much worse than I thought it was. So I'm going to try to fix it. First thing I'm going to try is ditching the heeled shoes for a week and see what that looks like. I'll also try setting up better with my chest up, maybe try moving the feet out slightly.

  4. For my deads, I stick my chest out and pull my shoulders back during the setup, I have to sit down a little bit deeper, but the Gordon and Frank say that it looks better so I will go on with my new form.

As for your squats, I think you are bent too far forward and don't really sit back. On the other hand, you have the strongest squat of all of us, so we better shut up and train.

  5. Nathan, having just watched the video of his chain squats: "HOLY FUCK, do I always lean that far forward?!"
