I felt pretty terrible going to the gym today. I'm sure that I'm getting sick, and that it's completely unrelated to Smolov, Nate. There's been a bug going around my office (currently two people in my room are out sick), so it's probably that. Still, the plan says to go, so I went.
Back Squat: 5x7@295
By god, these were hard. Gordon said that the fifth rep on the fifth set was not at or past parallel, but I think that was my only one of the 35. I could tell that that particular rep was bad. I'm happy that I was able to get all of the reps done, though.
At this point, I decided to call it quits. I put the important stuff first in the workout because of times like these, when I'll need to quit early. I feel like shit. I'll get a lot of sleep today and tomorrow, and hopefully this should be cleared up by Saturday.
In other news:
Time it took to walk to the Z-center: 25 minutes
Time it took to walk back home: 45 minutes
And I was trying to walk quickly too...

Crap, I think I'm officially injured. My left adductor, which has been giving me problems for over a year now, is quite painful and, if my eyes are not mistaken, is a little swollen as well. Cue the "I told you sos..." I'll see how I feel tomorrow, but I may need to call off squats for a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteI've had serious adductor issues in the past. We should talk some time about what exactly you are feeling and treatments I have found effective.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, it's time to stop Smolov. As my friend Jake says:
ReplyDelete"I knew that was going to happen. Let's look at the facts: Smolov = master of sport. Frank = beginner. Smolov designed Smolov for master of sport. Frank gets owned. I would like to see the people that don't get injured on that kind of program."
How are things going Frank? Are you still injured? Are you feeling better?
ReplyDelete@Nate: The pain I feel is really high on my adductor, basically at my groin (as a humorous aside, I tried to ice it...for about thirty seconds...). It only really hurts when I squat to parallel. Other movements (lunges, ATG squats) don't seem to affect it. Very odd. We should definitely talk more.
ReplyDelete@Nate Again: Hah, well, it was worth a shot. Still, I think doing such high volume was good for me. I'm much more comfortable with squatting now.
@Gordon: The injury is actually not too bad, but I got *really* sick on Thursday, like fever, chills, muscle pains, nausea, and headache sick. I thought I was going to die. I'm better now, thankfully, and should be back in the gym on Tuesday to do some light squatting and regular upper-body work.
Ok, that is exactly what I had. We'll talk.
ReplyDeleteAnd, obviously, getting really sick on Thursday had *nothing* to do with Smolov. Nothing at all.
