07/19 Shanker 5 Sets Method Upper 1

Things that annoy me:
1) Elbow problems that appear one day and disappear the next. Seriously, what the hell?
2) Hot lockerrooms that melt my peanut butter cups.
3) PA announcements that are 10 minutes off compared to the clocks on the walls.
4) My left hand grip

Things that make me happy:
1) Peanut butter cups
2) peanut butter and jelly sandwiches
3) beef
4) widening my bench grip by 1/2 an inch resulting in much shorter lockout.

Bench Press
For whatever reason I noticed my stroke has been too long, whether its because my arch is slightly smaller due to benching with heels on the floor or what, I'm not sure. Anyhoo, I always lose leverage right at the place where I would transfer power/momentum from my chest to my tris for lockout. I have the great natural gift of having broad shoulders for my height, so I figured why the hell not widen my grip. I'm strong off the chest let's see if I can maximize that and minimize my arm length. Settled on middle finger on the markers which is about a 1/2 inch wider on either side. Felt much better, and am now able to grind through reps now as opposed to hitting a sticking point and just failing. Also feel strong and stable.

  1. The DB rows are not even close to being symmetrical. My suggestion is to go heavier WITH straps; at this point in time, grip strength is probably not an issue. However, just to make sure that your grip is still improving, I would do all warm-up sets of deadlifts double-overhand (so everything <= 405). Let me know if this was possible.
