Keone 1/13

So my bet was supposed to be settled this weekend, but my brothers ended up canceling twice (each of them once on each of the two days). Eunice and I were both pretty annoyed. I don't think we will be settling it (ever) because we were too annoyed.

We would have definitely won the first one, because in training on Thursday Eunice pulled 197, benched 60, and squatted 135. I'm really proud of her; those are great numbers at 105 with very little training. I don't think my numbers could have gone up much though... I have had trouble maxing a pull beyond 400 (despite doing 4@380) due to various adverse conditions, and my bench is just starting to move up.

Anyway, today I pulled a Chris and went to the gym at 10:30 pm.

Bench
165x5x3

Squat
300x5x2

Out of time

  1. This isn't technically pulling a Chris because I generally finish my workouts after I run out of time at the Z. :)

And you probably have more than 405 in you if you have 380x4. Just sayin'.

  2. I think you can do more than 400 for sure, you just haven't had enough rest when max out. Both Xiao and Michael did 365 for 4 reps although they were supposed to do five reps (they did that for 5 or 6 set). After rest for one week, their maxes all went up to more than 420 pounds.

  3. Sheng, you have them doing 5-6 sets of heavy deadlifts? Damn.

    Chris...haha, true.

  5. Bailing on a bet automatically makes them fail in my book. So you win.

Also, you can definitely pull more than 400. You just need to stop trying to go for a max after a max set of 5... (or even the day after).

  6. Oh, and even if you had finished the bet, I'm sure you would have won. Very, very few people can deadlift 400+ after only a few weeks of training, and even fewer can squat or bench 400+ right away. I'm less certain about the total bet since a decently athletic guy can probably put up 600+ without much training, but that's only if he's had at least some exposure to barbells.
