Frank (4/22): Starting Strength, Light

I found an excellent pair of articles about raw squatting.
Developing Your Raw Squat, Part 1
Developing Your Raw Squat, Part 2

Back Squat
5x45, 5x95, 5x135, 5x185, 5x225
5x275 @ 8
5x275 @ 8
Easy. I think I've found my sweet spot with squatting, which is low bar, shoulder-width stance, medium to little sit-back. Now, I just need to be able to maintain it when I move to heavier weights.

Military Press
5x45, 5x95, 3x135
5x167.5 @ 9
5x167.5 @ 9
5x167.5 @ 9/10
Roar.

Pullup
5x75 @ 9/10
5x75 @ 9/10
5x75 @ 9/10
Quite tough. I had to extend my neck to get my chin above the bar for the last rep of each set or so. This is actually kind of tough on my elbows. Uh oh.

Ab Pulldown: 3x15 @ 190
Dumbbell Curl: 2x10 @ 40

In other news, I just discovered the gear switching mechanism on my bike's left handlebar, which allows me to change the front gears. I had been riding in low gear for about a month, and I'd been wondering why I had to peddle so much for so little speed. Now I know. A Harvard degree is good for something after all.

  1. Do you count the heavy collars as the 2.5's?

  2. @Shanker: Hah! What's the old joke? Harvard kids can't add. MIT kids can't spell.

@Justin: Yes, I count the heavy metal collars as 2.5. I don't know how accurate that is, but they're between 0 and 2.5 per collar, so I figure it's close enough.
