I'm looking for a squat assistance exercise that doesn't put much pressure on the lower back since my lower back tends to get fried after a few weeks of serious training. Any suggestions?

Wendler would recommend the leg curl or leg press if you want stronger legs... being very anti-machine still I'd go front squats, but that's juuuust me.
ReplyDeleteBulgarian split squats/lunges. I second Chris' idea of front squats too.

Basically, along with the unilateral work, I got some advice about how to modulate intensity better so that I could still practice the movement as well as suggestions about assistance and recovery work. hulk242 and StaffJ are both world-class lifters. The others...I'm not so sure.
